CBA is indeed done
Latest UPDATE, Januar 28, 3:16pm (CST):
"WNBA and Players Association Sign Six-Year Labor Agreement"
UPDATE, January 28, 8:15am: A few more details from USA Today's Oscar Dixon:
"Players union and league agree on new CBA"
As reported by Jayda Evans of The Seattle Times, the WNBA and the WNBPA (players' association) has reached a new collective bargaining agreement. An official announcement should be made very soon.
Details on the major points of the new CBA haven't been released; but, I was told by one source the WNBA teams may still core two players for the 2008 season; however, the number will decrease to one player cored per team starting in 2009.
A core player is a player a team designates as untouchable.
The same source told me the date of the expansion draft for the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA's newest franchise, would be February 8; however, Jayda's article states it will not take place until mid-February.
The main point is a new collective bargaining agreement has been reached; so, fans of the W can breathe a huge sigh of relief and start firming up their plans for a 2008 season (and beyond).
