Comets blow 22 point lead

Saturday night, the Houston Comets began the "Karleen Thompson Era" with a game the first-year head coach may remember for quite a while. The Comets led the Seattle Storm 60 to 38 with fifteen minutes left in the ball game -- five minutes left in the third quarter and 10 minutes in the fourth; however, Seattle outscored Houston 44 to 9 (that's right, 44 to 9!) to defeat the Comets 82 to 69.

Comets' rookie guard Ashley Shields led the Comets with 19 points; however, Shields (or, for that matter, the rest of the team) could not stop Seattle's scoring on slaught during those fifteen minutes.

I listened to the game on the radio; and, I was disappointed in Houston's inability to get the ball in the paint and / or get to the free throw line during the Storm's monumental scoring run.

While it's only one game and one very disappointing loss, Houston's point guard problems have now cost them one win and counting.

You mean the guards were unable to pass the ball to our post players in the paint?

Whose fault is the Comets lack of defense in the Storm's monumental 44 to 9 run?

What player of Seattle's was getting all the points during this run?

It is so hard to tell or remember in radio only games.

    Thanks.

Blowing a huge lead like that in such a short amount of time is a collective collapse by the team including the coaches.

Getting to the foul line by any Comets player could have slowed down Seattle's momentum and helped Houston regroup.

Because she's inexperienced, I don't expect Ashley to have the sense to control the team and settle them down during a big run like that as well as efficiently run the team's offense.
