Comets Select Leuchanka in WNBA Dispersal Draft
The Houston Comets selected center Yelena Leuchanka with the 8th pick in the 2007 WNBA Dispersal Draft.
Ironically, Leuchanka's best WNBA game happened against the Comets in a 2006 preseason game. Leuchanka played 39 minutes; scored 22 points (9 for 15 from the field, 1 for 1 from three, 3 for 4 fts) and pulled down seven rebounds.
Leuchanka, 23, born in Belarus, (6'5, 195, West Virginia '06) has battled knee problems much of her young basketball career. (She tore the ACL in her right knee in the 2003 - 2004 season; she tore the ACL in her left knee in the 2004 - 2005 season at West Virginia.)
Leuchanka averaged 7.5 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting .565 from the floor in 42 career games at West Virginia.
She averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds at Seminole Junior College in 2001 - 2002 and 18.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game at Wabash Valley Junior College in 2002 - 2003.
Leuchanka averaged 3 ppg and 1.2 rpg in just four games for the Charlotte Sting in the 2006 WNBA regular season.

Think I might have gone with Bond, because point guards, even young, inexperienced ones, seem to be a luxury in the W these days.
