Neaves Named C-USA Player of the Week
Rice’s Lauren Neaves averaged a double-double last week. Neaves was credited with 18.7 ppg and 14.3 rpg in Rice’s 2-1 week. The senior also contributed 3.3 blocks and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 57.5 percent (23-of-40) from the field and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe for the week.
Neaves had 20 points and 20 rebounds in Rice’s 79-66 upset victory over No. 10 Texas A&M Friday. She also had five blocked shots, two assists and shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-of-16) for her 41st career DD. The win over Texas A&M was Rice’s first victory over a top-10 program since defeating Louisiana Tech in 2002. It also marked C-USA’s first win over a ranked team this season.
Neaves posted her 42nd DD with 21 points and 14 rebounds against Marquette. She shot 58.3 percent from the field (7-of-12) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-of-8). In 26 minutes of action against SHSU, she tallied 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots while shooting 58.3 percent from the field (7-of-12).
Neaves ranks second in the league in scoring with 19.0 ppg and tops C-USA in two categories with 11.5 rpg and 2.13 bpg.
