T-Mac and Martin switch teams in 7-player deal
UPDATE, 12:40 p.m. -- Tracy McGrady will be traded to the New York Knicks as the deal has expanded to include three teams. The Rockets still get Kevin Martin from the Sacramento Kings; but, they will also obtain forward Jared Jeffries and rookie big man Jordan Hill from the Knicks as well as the right to swap first round picks with the Knicks in 2011 and the Knicks first round pick in 2012. (The Knicks' 2011 pick is top-1 protected, and the 2012 pick is top-5 protected.)
2/18/10, 9:10 a.m. --
Overnight, the Houston Rockets traded Tracy McGrady to the Sacramento Kings in a seven-player deal. In addition to McGrady, forward Carl Landry and center / forward Joey Dorsey were traded to the Kings in exchange for shooting guard Kevin Martin, forward Kenny Thomas, big (thin) man Hilton Armstrong, and guard Sergio Rodriguez.
Sacramento, apparently, is not the final destination for McGrady.
ESPN.com and NBA.com have stated the Knicks are still working to acquire McGrady which, ultimately, would make this a three-team trade.
However, from the Rockets' perspective, McGrady is dealt and Kevin Martin is a Houston Rocket.
Kevin Martin, 6'7", 185, is a solid scorer averaging 17.1 points per game in his career including 19.8 ppg in just 22 games this season. Martin missed much of the early part of this season with a hairline fracture in his left wrist.
Also, Martin missed the final few games of the 2008-2009 season with bone spurs in his left ankle; however, days before he was shut down for the remainder of the season, on April 1, 2009, Martin scored a career-high 50 points versus the Golden State Warriors on 11 for 22 from the field and 23 for 26 from the foul line.
Martin has played in more than 70 games in a season only twice in his six-year career. Martin, 27, will earn about $36 M over the next three seasons.
