Rockets Pull Away from Kings
HOUSTON, TX (Toyota Center) -- The Houston Rockets pulled away from the Sacramento Kings in the final four plus minutes of the ball game to defeat the Kings 113 to 106 Saturday night.
With the win, the Rockets (8-6) improved to 4 and 0 in the second game of a back-to-back set this season.
The Rockets outscored the Kings 33 to 22 in the fourth quarter thanks to 13 points from Carl Landry.
"I was really pleased with the fourth quarter," said Rockets head coach Rick Adelman after the game. "Before that, I just thought we were really struggling."
The Rockets were outscored by the Kings 32 to 21 in the third quarter and trailed the Kings 84 to 80 heading into the fourth.
The Kings (5-7) took advantage of their size and length to outscore the Rockets 18 to 8 in the paint.
"They really hurt inside, obviously, all night long," Adelman added. "Their post up people and on the boards."
Kings' big men Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson scored in paint around a tying three-point basket by teammate Beno Udrih to put the Kings ahead 101 to 99 with 4:23 remaining in the game.
Down the stretch, however, the Kings stopped getting the ball on the post; and, the Rockets took advantage.
Kyle Lowry tied the game at 101 with two made free throws; then, Lowry assisted on a jumper from Luis Scola and a reverse layup (and an 'and 1') by Landry as the Rockets scored eight straight points before Udrih swished a three-point shot to trim the Rockets' lead to 107 to 14 with 1:19 on the clock.
Trevor Ariza scored on a reverse layup (assist from Scola) to give the Rockets a five point lead with 57.9 seconds remaining.
The Kings did not score a single point until a meaningless jumper by Sergio Rodriguez ended the Rockets' run with six seconds left in the game.
"You have to give Houston credit," said Paul Westphal, Kings head coach. "They made the plays the last five minutes. They gave great effort; and, I admire the way the play their game."
Scola scored a team-high 22 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while Landry added 20 points (fifth time this season) and seven rebounds. Lowry scored eight points and dished out a team-high eight assists.
Spencer Hawes led six Kings players in double-figures with 24 points.
"They executed better than we did at the end," said Hawes after the game.
Tonight's win was the Rockets first of the season after trailing at the end of three quarters.

I did expect Scola to shoulder much of the responsibility when both T-Mac and Yao were out injured. And he has been doing it tremendously. As always his game both of the offense and the defense has been instrumental for the Rockets to move up the ladder. On top of that, the support he getas both Landry and Lowry are also a plus point for this team success despite playing without their star player. I've always its all about teamwork and chemistry, and the Rockets do have that in them.
