Lakers Thrash Rockets, Take 3-2 Lead
Clearly, the Los Angeles Lakers players took the Houston Rockets seriously Tuesday night in Game 5 as opposed to that listless and lifeless Game 4 showing. The Lakers blasted the Rockets 118 to 78 to earn a 3 to 2 series lead. Game 6 is Thursday night in Houston. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m.
The Lakers ended the first quarter with a 22 to 7 run to lead 35 to 24 at the end of the first quarter. The rout was just beginning. LA led the Rockets by 25 (64 to 39) at halftime and an astonishing 40 points (94 to 54) at the end of the third quarter.
Kobe Bryant removed any doubt he would score just four points in the paint and shoot zero free throws as he did Sunday afternoon in Game 5. Bryant was in attack mode in the first quarter and his teammates followed his lead.
Bryant scored a game-high 26 points in just 30 minutes of action. Six other Lakers scored in double digits. Andrew Bynum started at center and had his best game of the 2009 playoffs with 14 points and six boards in just under 20 minutes.
LA shot 51.2% (42 for 82) from the field and limited the Rockets to just 32.6% (29 for 89) shooting.
After scoring 34 points (12 for 20 from the field) in Game 4, Rockets' guard Aaron Brooks scored 14 points (4 for 11 shooting) in Game 5.
The Rockets committed 17 turnovers in the game.
The less written about the Rockets' performance tonight the better. On to Game 6.
