Lakers End Rockets' Season

The Los Angeles Lakers ended the Houston Rockets season today with an 89 to 70 victory in Game 7 of this bizarre Western Conference semifinal series. In the end, the tough, gritty Rockets simply had no answer for the Lakers starting frontcourt as center Andrew Bynum awakened from his playoff slumber and Pau Gasol finally played like a big man versus the undersized Rockets. Bynum scored 14 points and grabbed six boards while Gasol produced 21 points, 18 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Small forward Trevor Ariza added 15 points and five boards as the Lakers frontcourt trio combined to produce 50 points and 29 rebounds in LA's Game 7 rout of the Rockets.

The Rockets did not make a basket for the first seven minutes of the ball game; and, the Rockets never recovered from that slow start.

Chuck Hayes took eight shots -- a bad sign if you're a Rockets' fan -- but, Hayes made four of the attempts and finished the game with eight points. Hayes 4 for 8 shooting for the field was the best mark by any of the five Rockets' starters. The other four starters combined to make just 12 of 41 field goal attempts.

The Lakers led the Rockets 22 to 12 at the end of the first quarter and 51 to 31 at the half. The game was pretty much over.

Luis Scola, Game 6 star, scored only 11 points on 4 for 12 shooting; and, Aaron Brooks failed to bring his great Toyota Center efforts versus the Lakers on the road as he scored 13 points on 5 for 13 shooting. Brooks also committed five turnovers.

Ron Artest had another poor performance. Artest shot 3 for 10 including just 1 for 6 from three-point range. (Why Ron-Ron shot six threes is a question for another time.)

The Rockets' valiant effort in this series came up woefully short today. Rockets' management can begin contemplating ways to improve the team for the 2009 - 2010 season.

SOOO disapointing, in the way the team played. I was not impressed with the coach or Artest, especially today. I'm sorry, I've just been following the team in the playoffs, but I see nothing in Artest. I'm surprised the coach could not get his team fired up, atleast for a better showing. They were beat before the game started. Sooo soooo sorry!
