Rockets Lose in Portland

The Houston Rockets' offense went into the deep freeze at the wrong time Tuesday night in Game 5 versus the Portland Trailblazers. Leading 68 to 64 in the fourth quarter, the Rockets were outscored by the Blazers 24 to 9 and the Blazers defeated the Rockets 88 to 77 to trim Houston's series lead to 3 games to 2 and send the series back to Houston for Game 6 on Thursday night.

Luis Scola led the Rockets with 21 points on 10 for 13 shooting from the field. Scola drained open jumper after open jumper in the first quarter; and, along with Aaron Brooks helped the Rockets stay close to the Blazers at the end of the first period. The Rockets trailed the Blazers 29 to 26 at the end of the 12 minutes. Yao Ming was scoreless in the opening period.

Portland led the Rockets 50 to 43 at halftime; and the Rockets' defense clamped down on the Blazers in the third quarter and limited Portland to just 14 third quarter points.

Yao Ming took 12 shots and made seven in the ball game; but, the Rockets failed to get Yao or Scola the basketball down the stretch of the ball game which definitely hurt the team.

Aaron Brooks scored 13 points; but, Brooks was just 6 for 20 from the field; and, he really struggled with his shot selection and decision making. He shot when he should have passed and passed when he should have shot.

Ron Artest shot a woeful 3 for 9 from the field and scored only 10 points in the game. Artest added four rebounds; five assists; and four turnovers.

The Blazers were led by their Big Two of LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy. Aldridge and Roy each scored 25 points in the game and combined to shoot 20 for 40 from the field. Steve Blake added an efficient 15 points on 5 for 7 shooting from the field including 2 for 2 from three.

The Blazers managed just 14 assists on their 33 made baskets.

Discounting the team rebounds in the game, Portland outrebounded the Rockets 37 to 36; which means once again the team who won the battle of the boards -- between these two clubs -- was victorious (5 for 5 in this series).
