Goodbye, Mr. D.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Mr. Bill Davidson, "Mr. D", owner of the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Shock passed away Friday at the age of 86.

I heard about his passing earlier this morning before I boarded the plane for OKC. I've been a Pistons' fans for about 23 years; and, I definitely grew to admire Mr. D a great deal. He was a great man; a great sports owner; and a great philanthropist.

I decided to wear one of my Pistons' caps today in OKC in honor of Mr. D; and, little did I know, my cap would generate a response from Texas A&M women's basketball head coach Gary Blair during his post-game press conference.

I asked Coach Blair to discuss his senior forward Danielle Gant.

Here is some of what Coach Blair answered:

"Danielle Gant just wants to win and isn't it a shame she's not on all those All-American lists? Because All-American lists are about reputation and how many points you score, and that's not how the game of basketball is played, okay? It is about doing all the little things. It is about what's on your hat there.

The Detroit Pistons, when they used to be pretty good, they used to have a guy named Dennis Rodman. They used to have a lot of players that could do a lot of the little things in the game. Gant does the little things and she's hard to guard."

Rest in Peace, Mr. D.
