Historic Race?

Interesting note from today's NBA News media newsletter:

Six games. That's all that separates the top 10 teams in the Western Conference. If the playoffs started today, the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets, who own winning percentages of .587 and .574, respectively, would be prepping for the Lottery. This is the closest 10 teams ever have been this late in the season. Prior to this, the closest 10 teams had been this late was on Feb. 5, 2001, when seven games separated first-place Sacramento (31-12) and 10th-place Seattle (27-23) in the Western Conference. That year, two teams from the West with winning records -- the Houston Rockets (45-37) and the SuperSonics (44-38) -- failed to reach the postseason.
