HBU's Jones II named NAIA National Player of the Week
Houston Baptist University's Dwight Jones II was named the NAIA National Player of the Week, earning the first honor of the season for his efforts over the Christmas holidays.
Jones, a senior guard from Houston, helped HBU to a win over St. Ambrose University on December 30 in Sharp Gym by pouring in 30 points on 10-18 shooting from the floor and 10-13 from the line. He also added four boards, three assists and a steal as the Huskies won handily, 93-65.
A second-team NAIA All-America last season, Jones leads the Huskies in scoring at 20.7 points per night, and is also chipping in 3.9 rebounds while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor. He is second in the conference and eighth in the nation in scoring.
It is the first national weekly honor for Jones, who was also tabbed as the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time this year. He was the RRAC Player of the Year last season.
