UH Lady Coogs beat Lady Owls 79-72

I was pleasantly surprised at the solid performance the Rice Lady Owls and the Houston Lady Cougars displayed for the ESPN2 audience Sunday afternoon. UH won 79 to 72 behind a career-high 37 points from Tye Jackson. Teammate ShaRatta Hawkins added 17 points including nailing three straight three-point shots in the second half to blow the game wide-open. Also, freshman guard Nakazi Glover made key plays down the stretch to help seal the win for the Lady Cougars. UH improves to 4-0 in Conference USA while Rice falls to 2 and 2.

The Lady Owls were led by Krystal Frazier's 23 points and Valeriya Berezhinska's 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Listen to the post-game mp3s:

UH women's head coach Joe Curl: "...be the best that they can be..." "...an accountable team..."
Lady Cougars G Tye Jackson: "...
I was excited..."
Lady Cougars G ShaRatta Hawkins: "...
go on a roll..."

Most of us at the game would like to see Tye Jackson as a Comet in a couple years.

After this nationally televised game, I suspect we will start seeing WNBA scouts at UH again.
