Bell shows how American society uses different types of medications; supplements; vitamins; etc. to make them feel better; perform better on tests; however, those same people will vilify anyone for using steroids for similar reasons.

Before I saw "Bigger, Stronger, Faster", I was one of the people who thought steroids were bad because they are termed "illegal performance enhancements"; however, a basic question the movie made me ask is "what makes one thing legal and okay to use and another thing illegal to use"?

See "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" and form your own conclusions.
<!--

It is named for the four championships the Comets won. Pictures of the four championships are featured outside the two doors. Inside the Championship Club are two areas. The area on the right is reserved for the bar. Reliant Arena Officials and Hilton plan to have this bar area open for the floor and clubhouse seated fans to meet before, during, and after the game. Hilton would like to have drinks and some “low end” food served there. Currently only drinks are being served through a fully stocked bar. You enter the bar area through the right side door.

On the left side of the Championship Club is an area with cloth cover tables and a 5 station buffet. This is the restaurant area of the Reliant Arena. If any of you have had the opportunity to eat in the Red & White Bistro at the Toyota Center, this is Reliant Arena’s version of the R&W Bistro…and the food is excellent. It is prepared by Aramark, the same company as the Toyota Center. It is a little different from the R&W in that when you go to the station, the food is prepared for you with the ingredients you choose. There are salad, pasta, meat, dessert, and coffee stations. At the pasta station, we chose between penne pasta and cheese stuffed ravioli…then we selected additions of meat and vegetables…then the sauce of our choosing. It was put in a pan and cooked briefly and then placed on our plates. It is the same for the other stations...mixed and served to your choosing. Tonight the meat station had prime beef…very tender and good. Mr. Sorf had the dessert station prepare berry shortcake with the fixings of his choosing; whereas I selected the brownie. The buffet is $25.00 per person…all you can eat…beverages other than water and tea are extra. To enter the buffet area of the Championship Club use the left door behind the guest check-in stand.

Tonight Hilton was in the Championship Club meeting with the Reliant Arena officials. They were discussing how to set up this club. I overheard some of the conversation. Hilton would like the clubhouse to accommodate fans wanting to eat the buffet and fans that want an area to meet and spend time together. He asked Reliant Arena officials if low end food could be added to the bar area. He also would like the windows remove so the fans in the Championship Club could hear the game as well as watch it. Reliant Arena is going to try to include all of his suggestions. He did express his appreciation of the newly installed televisions in the Championship Club.

After the meeting with the Reliant Arena officials, Hilton “worked” the clubhouse. After a few minutes he visited the buffet and sat his plate on the table next to ours. He then turned around and talked to us. He asked us to bear with him as he tries to set the arena up. He said Reliant Arena was working hard to make the arena an arena that we (the fans) would like. He said they are going to paint the floors around the outside of the arena. (They need it) He said they agreed to remove the windows in the club so the fans could hear the game. He wants the fans to have the total fan experience while in the Championship Club. He said Reliant Arena will increase the bar area for fans to mill around. I suggested they include some seating in the bar area because some handicap people can’t stand long periods of time…he said that was a good idea and called the RA official over and asked if they could add seating in the bar area…and it was done. I also suggested that the Championship Club be publicized because most people sitting on the floor and the clubhouses don’t know about it. He said Reliant Officials would be making announcements during the game about the Championship Club. And at tonight’s game it was announce before the game and at halftime. I still think it would be wiser to send out an e-mail to STHs. I promised him to spread the word about it,

I also suggested that fans that do not sit on the floor or in the clubhouse sections should be allowed to dine at the Championship Club by making a reservation prior to the game, as it is done at the Red & White Bistro at the Toyota Center…he thought that was a good idea too.

As he sat down to his dinner, we continued our conversation. He told us about the plan to present Tina Thompson her Team USA jersey prior to the game. I told him that Phoenix did the same thing and Diana Taursi threw hers to a fan, and Anne Myers had to retrieve it and explain to the fan that it was the original. He laughed and said he hadn’t heard about that, but it definitely sounded like something she would do. He said DT is very friendly and assessable to her fans. It was quite evident that he has met her. He said if there was anything we needed to let him know. To which MR. SORF said, “how about a win?” He giggled and said, “don’t even get me started…I was screaming at the radio during the last game. I feel sorry for the SASS team tonight because I’m expecting the Comets to come out mad and win this game”.

And the Comets did!
<!--

Then, subtract (from that total) the turnovers per game.

A score of 35 or better is a Superstar -- according to Astro Mike.

Here are McGrady's career numbers:

22.4 ppg
6.2 rpg
4.7 apg
1.3 spg
0.9 bpg

The sum of those numbers is 35.5.

Next, subtract McGrady's 2.35 turnovers per game.

The answer is 33.15.

Therefore, McGrady is not quite a superstar.

What do you think?

Did you need that theory to tell you McGrady wasn't a superstar? The company’s first product, The Xrossover, is a patented multi-faceted basketball-training vest. The arm sleeve functions as a sling that restricts the athletes’ stronger arm while forcing the use of the weaker one. The two resistance bands are attached to position the players’ arms in the proper place for distributing and receiving the basketball while creating muscle memory and strength training. The Xrossover provides the wearer with style as well as proper training and is unlike any other conventional workout equipment in the market today.

Check out the website: www.Xrossover.net.

<!--

It has happened before, Cynthia Cooper retired and Kim Perrot tragically died from cancer. But this time it was different. We lost Sheryl Swoopes because she was no longer wanted by the coaching staff and new owner. Instead of trying to live the glory days of the Comets, the current ownership and coaching want to go in a different direction….the glory days of the Sparks. So Sheryl Swoopes was shown the exit door and Mabika was welcomed. We Got Nothing!

I’m not saying that Swoopes still has it, but I do know that at age 35 or 36, Swoopes still has more than Mabika. Swoopes was more productive sitting on the bench last year than Mabika was on the floor playing basketball for the Sparks. I remember watching the only game LA played in Houston last year and Mabika played like Snow…disinterested. She loped around, she made lazy passes, and she threw shots at the basket without caring if they went in or not. It was her second year of non-productivity. So, Karleen grabbed Mabika up, gave her a substantial salary, and let Swoopes go. I guess that makes sense to Karleen, but to me, We Got Nothing!

So currently we have Snow and Tina Thompson making the max in salary. We have former Spark players Byears, Dixon, and Mabika, plus Maiga-Ba, making near to the max. So that leaves very little money left for any other free agents. This is the core of our team…cast offs from the Sparks of ole, a disinterested center, and two good starters. We Got Nothing to really compete!

And let’s discuss Karleen’s great draft pick last year. Shields shows moments of talent, but really, how many times does it take to learn that in the WNBA you can’t drive into the paint and not expect to be hammered or blocked. In Junior College, they may let you through, but in the WNBA they won’t. And looking to Karleen after every play for validation is not WNBA worthy. In last year’s draft, We Got Nothing!

Now the 2008 WNBA season is approaching fast…it is only two months away. It will start early this year because the Olympics are in August. There have been big trades, 4th pick to Seattle for Castro Marques, 4th pick to Detroit for Cash, Suns trade Katie Douglas to Fever for Whitmore. Free agents have been moving elsewhere, like Marie Ferdinand, Mabika, and Sheryl Swoopes. And for the Comets, we let go of something (Swoopes) and We Got Nothing! (Mabika)

So why have We Got Nothing? Because we have Karleen Thompson who thinks she knows basketball better than any other coach or GM out there…and she is wrong. She does not have an eye for talent. She can’t put a team together; we saw that last year when she had the revolving door of guards till Dixon rejoined the team. Even Swoopes mentioned it last year in an interview. And then there is her coaching…or lack of coaching as I call it. Karleen is the least paid coach in the WNBA; and guess what? We are getting what we paid for, a lousy coach. And when you throw in Hilton “I haven’t a clue” Koch as owner, well, We Got Nothing!

So my question is, where’s Donna Orrender and the WNBA? Why don’t they jump in and try to correct this sinking ship. The WNBA must have heard the rumors of people not being paid; they had to hear the rumors that players have told their agents not to entertain any offers from the Comets, and all the other rumors that are swirling out there. And yet they do nothing. So once again for the Comets’ fans, We Got Nothing!

We received the fifth pick in the lottery for this years’ draft…a draft that has 3 or 4 impact players. The Eastern Conference Champions Detroit Shock traded up to the 4th pick in the draft…and we still have the fifth. Detroit has a good GM and coach. We may not like Bill Lambeer; he can be obnoxious, arrogant, and a pain in the butt, however he gets things done. We have Karleen who faces west and picks up LA’s castoffs…We Got Nothing!

It is going to be a long arduous season this year because We….you know the rest. And 2009, We Will Have Nothing! The Houston Comets will be gone. Thank you, Les Alexander, Andrea Young, Hilton Koch, Karleen Thompson and the WNBA for Nothing!!!!

<!--

They started off slow and let the Lady Tigers of Jackson State go out fast and take a 15-4 lead early in the game. They then went on a run themselves and took a 1 point halftime lead of 27-26. They came out in the second half strong and got the lead up to 10 points. At this point I'm thinking they are about to blow JSU away like all of the other teams, I was wrong. With a little more than 3 minutes left in the game they started to make turnovers like the other teams would do during this part of the game. The Lady Panthers had a total of 33 turnovers for the game with Gatti Werema (last years Swac Freshman of the Year) making 14 of those personally. She was 1 point away from a triple double, but with the bad stat of 14 turnovers to go with 10 rebounds and 9 points. JSU tied the game at 56 with about 14 seconds left to go in regulation. The Lady Panthers quickly moved the ball up the court and Cadice Thomas hit a lay up to go ahead by 2. At this point I'm thinking they are going to pull this one out since there are about 9 ticks left on the clock. When the Lady Panthers pressed JSU it often took them 15 seconds to get the ball up the floor but at this time JSU found the only person left open down low with a quick long pass and she hit a lay up to tie the game again at 58 with 2 seconds left. They again turn the ball over and the time runs out on the clock. In overtime this was all JSU and the Lady Panthers go down in defeat for the first time on their home court and in conferance play.

I feel sorry for the Lady Tigers of Grambling when they come into the Baby Dome Monday for their contest with the Lady Panthers, its gonna be on......
<!--

The Lady Panthers wore Pink uniforms in their game against Texas Southern to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. They also took donations at the game to be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) Cancer Fund and the American Cancer Society.

This game was not even close after the first few minutes of play. Unlike the first meeting between these two teams when TSU jumped out early and the Lady Panthers had to come from behind in the firt half. They jumped on the Lady Tigers early and pulled away with ease. They led at halftime by a score of 37-19 and eventually stretched that lead to a 29 point win for the victory 75-46.

The Lady Panthers are still undefeated at home and in Swac play. Their record now is 10-0 in conferance and 15-7 overall. They have won all 5 of their conferance games so far with the lastest being the Lady Tigers from Jackson State and Grambling State. They have extended their winning streak to 7 games and they have won 9 out of their last 10 games. This is the earliest that I can remember them getting to 10 wins in a season.
<!--

Too many. And today was no exception. With 30 seconds left and the Rockets up by one, the Rockets let Chris Paul drive through the Rockets' “Matador” defense for a lay-up…and the game was theirs. Once again, turnovers, poor shot selections, rushed shots and lapses in defense in the last two minutes cost the Rockets a win. When are the Rockets going to learn to play the whole game? Up to that point, it was a great game played well by each team. Final score, 87-82.

The Hornets were led by the tandem of Chris Paul and David West. For the first 3 quarters it appeared like West couldn’t miss. He drove to paint and hit. He shot from the outside, and hit. The Rockets couldn’t stop him. However, he cooled in the fourth quarter and actually missed. He ended the game with 26 points on 12 -27 shooting and 12 rebounds. Chris Paul had 19 points and 11 assists.

Yao had his usually great game. In the fourth quarter it appeared that the Rockets had the game won when they went up by 8 points. However they failed to take advantage of the opportunity to score a couple quick baskets that could have put the Hornets away. And that has been pretty much the problem the Rockets have suffered all season long. They can not close games out. Yao led the Rockets with 30 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 block shots. He had a little help from the guards. A. Brooks had 11 points, R. Alston 12 points, and L. Head 11 points.

Some personal notes, Comet’s Tina Thompson was sitting courtside with her mother and son. And the Red Rowdies wish Aaron Brooks a “Happy Birthday” while he was shooting a free throw. Tomorrow, Brooks will be celebrating his 23rd birthday. Happy Birthday, Aaron.
<!--
