Lady Panthers, Unbeaten in the Swac....No More

On cold rainy night on the hill, the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M University took their unbeaten streak in the Swac and their home court to task. They started off slow and let the Lady Tigers of Jackson State go out fast and take a 15-4 lead early in the game. They then went on a run themselves and took a 1 point halftime lead of 27-26. They came out in the second half strong and got the lead up to 10 points. At this point I'm thinking they are about to blow JSU away like all of the other teams, I was wrong. With a little more than 3 minutes left in the game they started to make turnovers like the other teams would do during this part of the game. The Lady Panthers had a total of 33 turnovers for the game with Gatti Werema (last years Swac Freshman of the Year) making 14 of those personally. She was 1 point away from a triple double, but with the bad stat of 14 turnovers to go with 10 rebounds and 9 points. JSU tied the game at 56 with about 14 seconds left to go in regulation. The Lady Panthers quickly moved the ball up the court and Cadice Thomas hit a lay up to go ahead by 2. At this point I'm thinking they are going to pull this one out since there are about 9 ticks left on the clock. When the Lady Panthers pressed JSU it often took them 15 seconds to get the ball up the floor but at this time JSU found the only person left open down low with a quick long pass and she hit a lay up to tie the game again at 58 with 2 seconds left. They again turn the ball over and the time runs out on the clock. In overtime this was all JSU and the Lady Panthers go down in defeat for the first time on their home court and in conferance play.

I feel sorry for the Lady Tigers of Grambling when they come into the Baby Dome Monday for their contest with the Lady Panthers, its gonna be on......

Lady Panthers are Pretty in Pink

Not only do the Lady Panthers win games in their traditional colors of Purple and Gold, they also win in Pink. The Lady Panthers wore Pink uniforms in their game against Texas Southern to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. They also took donations at the game to be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) Cancer Fund and the American Cancer Society.

This game was not even close after the first few minutes of play. Unlike the first meeting between these two teams when TSU jumped out early and the Lady Panthers had to come from behind in the firt half. They jumped on the Lady Tigers early and pulled away with ease. They led at halftime by a score of 37-19 and eventually stretched that lead to a 29 point win for the victory 75-46.

The Lady Panthers are still undefeated at home and in Swac play. Their record now is 10-0 in conferance and 15-7 overall. The Lady Panthers take on the Lady Tigers from Jackson State on saturday at the Baby Dome with the tip off scheduled for 5:30..
