Lady Panthers Still Undefeated in SWAC

Week three in Swac play is now in the books and the Lady Panthers are alone at the top of the standing with a 5-0 (10-7) record. They have won all 5 of their conferance games so far with the lastest being the Lady Tigers from Jackson State and Grambling State. They have extended their winning streak to 7 games and they have won 9 out of their last 10 games. This is the earliest that I can remember them getting to 10 wins in a season.

It ain't over till it's over, Rockets!

How many games have the Rockets lost in the last minutes of the game this season? Too many. And today was no exception. With 30 seconds left and the Rockets up by one, the Rockets let Chris Paul drive through the Rockets' “Matador” defense for a lay-up…and the game was theirs. Once again, turnovers, poor shot selections, rushed shots and lapses in defense in the last two minutes cost the Rockets a win. When are the Rockets going to learn to play the whole game? Up to that point, it was a great game played well by each team. Final score, 87-82.

The Hornets were led by the tandem of Chris Paul and David West. For the first 3 quarters it appeared like West couldn’t miss. He drove to paint and hit. He shot from the outside, and hit. The Rockets couldn’t stop him. However, he cooled in the fourth quarter and actually missed. He ended the game with 26 points on 12 -27 shooting and 12 rebounds. Chris Paul had 19 points and 11 assists.

Yao had his usually great game. In the fourth quarter it appeared that the Rockets had the game won when they went up by 8 points. However they failed to take advantage of the opportunity to score a couple quick baskets that could have put the Hornets away. And that has been pretty much the problem the Rockets have suffered all season long. They can not close games out. Yao led the Rockets with 30 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 block shots. He had a little help from the guards. A. Brooks had 11 points, R. Alston 12 points, and L. Head 11 points.

Some personal notes, Comet’s Tina Thompson was sitting courtside with her mother and son. And the Red Rowdies wish Aaron Brooks a “Happy Birthday” while he was shooting a free throw. Tomorrow, Brooks will be celebrating his 23rd birthday. Happy Birthday, Aaron.

Lady Panthers Continue Winning Streak

The Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M continued their winning ways with a victory over the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern. They have won 5 in a row and 7 of their last 8 games. The game started off slow for the Lady Panthers as TSU got off to a early 8-2 lead. They then started their run and went up by 12 and never looked back. They took a 15 point lead at half and TSU never got closer than 10 points. The defense was great and held TSU to only 3 of 25 from the field in the 2nd half. They are tied for 1st place in the Swac with Jackson State and will play them next weekend in Jackson,MS for the conferance lead. They also will play against Grambling on this road trip. The team is now 8-7 and 3-0, lets go Panthers.......

Lady Panthers Rout Alcorn State

I hate I can't make these Monday evening games because of other commitments but I did listen to as nuch of the game as I could on the radio (KPVU 91.3 FM). This game was never even close from the beginning to the end. Here is the Official Press Release for the game.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - A total of four Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers scored in the double digits in a 68-28 rout of the Alcorn State Lady Braves. PVAMU applied constant defensive pressure during the contest forcing 30 ASU turnovers which turned into 33 Lady Panther points.

Prairie View A&M was also able to dominate inside the paint outscoring the Lady Braves in that area 36 to 16.

Overall it was a dominating performance by Prairie View A&M which improved its overall record to 7-7 and 2-0 in SWAC play. The Lady Panthers allowed Alcorn State to shoot just 18 percent from the floor (9-50) while nearly connecting on half of their shot attempts (31-65).

The Lady Panthers have now won six of their last seven ball games and currently hold a four-game winning streak.

Candice Thomas led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Chari Smith notched a double-double contributing 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Gaati Werema and Kandis Brown round out the list of Lady Panther double digit scorers, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. PVAMU will now look to make it five in a row as they travel to Houston on Saturday, January 12th to face cross town rival Texas Southern. Tip-off has been set for 5:30 p.m. at the HP&E Arena located on the campus of TSU.
