Comets vs. Mystics 6/22/07, my take

Hamchetou Maiga-Ba!!! How I don't know, but she gave even more hustle, fire and energy last night than I have seen before. Great, great job! What I also really like is her personality, great attitude, great smile! She could become the glue that was Janeth Arcain on this team.

Tina looked great as usual. I have no problem with Michelle, she pretty much can score at will in the paint. She is hustling. Still needs to work on defensive skills to become complete.

Sancho stepped in nicely with the great jumping ability and soft hands to bring those rebounds home. Spiderwoman. :P She missed a couple of layups or putbacks I thought she should have had but with more time on the court, can you say "Baby Yo"!

I can't say enough about Tamara Moore. She directs the team with confidence and she was hitting outside shots which helped immensely. She has stepped in under difficult circumstances without fear.

Crystal Smith is also a good complement to Moore. Lots of energy and fast, which keeps the defense on its toes IMO. She is short and a bit of a liability on defense (the team should work on having her back) but she keeps the offense moving, which I like.

Ro Hodges seemed confident but didn't play too much.

Ashley Shields. Cool. She finally let Ashley play the two guard where she is comfortable, and she did not disappoint. Kept them honest hitting from the outside, was able to see the openings for driving at times. In the post game interview, Karleen said they had been talking to Ashley about driving to score and not just to get the foul. She is a rookie and has enough to learn without trying to learn point guard too. Ashley got a taste of how physical the WNBA is - she took a hit to the chest, not sure if it was an elbow or not or who from, but she was hurting and seemed a little shocked.

Tina got her own elbow into, I think it was Teasley. Very physical game and I wish elbow hits would become immediate technical fouls.

That one play where I think it was Mo Currie and Byears tied up in front of the Mystics bench and Byears just gave it everything she had to rip that ball from Currie who was holding on tight, showed such power that even I had to laugh and be impressed - after I made sure Currie wasn't hurt cus she didn't want to let go. I'd say Byears won that challenge but Currie is very brave!

Alana Beard got very mad in a good way near the end and helped make the score more respectable as she became a tasmanian devil on defense.
The Mystics are just victims of too much change and lack of chemistry, same as the Comets IMO. I agree, too much talent on both teams for these records. They just need to keep pushing through it and working to gel same as the Comets are trying to do.

I was impressed with Nakia Sanford. She has a spin move on the left side of the goal that got her a couple of easy layups, or she made them look easy. She reminds me of Janell Burse with her build, solid. Nice player.
Teasley didn't look particularly motivated.

It was nice to see Yelena Leuchanka back in the Toyota Center. She didn't get to play much for the Mystics but she looked happy. I'm hoping she will be a player like Rasmussen in this league - lots of hustle, utility player. I think she may shoot better than Ras.

Tree Rollins, I felt bad for him. He just looks like a very nice person.
So the Comets kind of hit a lull at one point but managed to get the engines revving again.

Allison Feaster was in the house, looking fabulous with I assume her two children. She is taking the summer off she said.

Sheryl Swoopes was looking very, very nice with that red hot top! She may be a week or two away still Karleen said in the post game interview above. She is shooting at practice at least.

Had a good time, nice win, Comets!

Nice write up CB. I missed seeing Allison Feaster. I did watch Swoopes walking, and I agree she is probably one to two weeks away.

I wish we could cut some of TT's minutes, but I understand TT doesn't want to and Karleen doesn't want to also.

The games are staring to be fun again...the team out on the floor the last two home games is a team that the fans can become involved with. I wish it had happened earlier in the month.

According to what Kris says, Tina doesn't want to continue playing so many minutes. She has aches and pains. Now that the team has a couple of wins under their belts and got that proverbial monkey off their backs, perhaps Karleen will change the rotation some to give Tina some rest.

May as well play all of the players to get them some experience.

I only saw Feaster because I saw Swoopes head that way after the game so I knew someone must be there. Then I saw Allison and went over to ask if she was going to play for the Comets. DMJ is who she was talking to, and she seemed real nice too - not the player we see sometimes on the court. ;-)
